Surviving High School

highschoolDear Sammy,

Since you have started high school I thought I would give you a few pointers on surviving the chaos. I know the scariest thing is going into an unfamiliar place with few familiar faces and trying to succeed. But it’s not as bad as it seems. The biggest thing for me to get over was the hundreds of other people in your class and the upper classman that can sit there and say whatever they want about you. I know you’ve never cared what people think about you which is one of the things I love and envy about you. As a freshman it can seem as though all eyes are on you. But I deeply promise upper classman could actually care less. Besides, there is one major goal you all have in common… to graduate and get the heck outta there! In the end that’s all that matters, but it’s all about how you achieve the goal. Always remember each day is a new chance to be the best you there is!

  1. High School is only one chapter in your life. Keep in mind your really only at school to get educated! Meaning what happens in high school basically stays in high school. There is life after high school. Don’t be dumb, though. High school sets you up for your future… partially. I personally believe they should teach you how to do your bills and afford college smartly, but no they would rather teach you that the limit does not exist. Anyways, I was saying that if you do something embarrassing it’s honestly not going to haunt you for the rest of your life.
  2. Your grades are your main goal, good enough grades to get you to your dreams! You’ve got big ones girl and it’s going to take a lot of self- control, determination, and will. You can hate a class, a teacher, the other students in the class, but when you’re in class you care about you, yourself, and you again! Your main goal is to worry about going to class doing what you gotta do, coming home and doing what you gotta do to succeed, and repeat for four years! Your grades and ACT scores determine where you go from here and what college is going to PAY YOU to come to their school! That’s right if you buckle down enough they could be begging you to join their community! So don’t take these lightly! Learn from me, your freshman year will count towards your overall GPA. You’re not in high school to worry about what Sally said to Jane who then repeated it to Mark! You. Are. There. For. SCHOOL. Plain and Simple!
  3. Who says you can’t have a balance, though? There is a time and place for everything. Be strict with yourself. There is always time to go out with friends too, especially when you have a happy medium between study life and social life. Life is too short to drown yourself in books and papers, that won’t help you succeed, either. There are things in the real life to explore that high school cannot teach you. I don’t want you to think I am contradicting myself, but your school work comes first and your friends come next. Never push your homework to the last minute. Be thrifty with your time, because you will not survive without living!
  4. Peer pressure Smeer pressure! Everything everybody else is doing is over rated! They are all trying to act older than they really are. You’re pretty stubborn, so I think you will be fine here, but nobody can make you do anything you do not want to! Remember when I said DON’T BE DUMB! If you’re ever pushed to try something, think about the consequences, think about all the possibilities of what could happen! I know at some point you may think you’re invincible but you’re not! Be smart like I know you are 😉 And never think you have to be friends with people who do dumb stuff to fit in. You will fit in with your own intelligent, book worms, and future driven people! You are to school for cool.

High School is an exciting time in your life. You’ll love it! Your beautiful, creative, smart, extremely talented, witty and AMAZING! You have dreams, do not ever lose touch of that, because that gets you places!

Love,

Sissy 🙂

Don’t forget I am donating to the Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program. Click on the ads, August is almost over! I’m not asking for any of your own money just a couple seconds of your time! It is very appreciated as suicide is a huge epidemic that needs to be stopped! You are all amazing and I love your support!
